Meet the New Owners, Scott and Tony!
Jared and I are excited to introduce you to the new owners of the Grassfed Cattle Company, Scott Haase and Tony Wells! If you’d like to learn more about the transition, please read our previous blog.
We have known Scott and Tony for quite a while and feel confident they will take great care of you as a Grassfed Cattle Co. customer. To me, writing this blog felt more like introducing friends to one another so I hope you enjoy getting to know Scott and Tony.
Tony grew up in the north suburbs of the twin cities but moved south when he co-founded Regeneration Farms Tree-Range chicken business in 2016 where he and the team raised and marketed free-range Organic meat birds in cooperation with several family farms. That work transitioned into Tree Range Farms Inc. in early 2023. With new hires and leadership in place he made the transition out of the business operation to focus on his personal farming future. Tony received his BS Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota in 2010 and completed the mini-MBA program at St Thomas - Opus College of Business in Minneapolis in 2017. After college Tony spent 5 years working for Kemps/Dairy Farmers of America, a global dairy manufacturing company, as a plant engineering manager, directing maintenance crews and managing capital improvement projects.
Tony has had a lifelong dream of starting a regenerative farm and growing all kinds of nutritious foods. He truly believes in the Hippocrates quote “Let Food Be Thy Medicine and Medicine Be Thy Food.” After nearly 10 years of searching for land, 2020 brought a unique opportunity that led to the purchase of 40 acres of farmland in beautiful Sogn Valley just south of Cannon Falls, MN. He has been growing garlic for 5 years and has started a small value added garlic business; making garlic powder, garlic salt, black fermented garlic and selling garlic seed stock. In 2024 he had a small CSA and expanded vegetable production on his farm. He is looking forward to starting cattle next season and has become more of avid grass fed and pastured meat consumer over the past decade and is grateful to know where 100% of his meat comes from and how it is raised.
He has always loved having a garden and growing food. From a young age he had connections with growing food at his grandparents farm in Princeton, MN, where they kept 40 head of beef cattle and farmed crops and hay on 240 acres, as well as the huge city gardens that his other grandparents had in Columbia Heights, they had more garden space than grass there in the city where they lived for 50 years.
Tony is passionate about bringing healthy nutritious foods to customers, especially in the twin cities where he grew up teaching folks about how their food is raised. It all starts with the soil on our farms. The Grass Fed Cattle Co business is a really exciting opportunity and aligns perfectly with Tony’s future farming goals!
Tony lives in Kenyon, MN and enjoys cooking, running, biking, reading, live music and fermenting foods.
For 6th generation farmer Scott Haase, the most rewarding aspect of work is serving customers who share the values of deeply caring for the land and also for the health and vitality of themselves and their families.
“Talking with a customer who’s somewhere along this path of understanding all these connections and wants more grass and perennial-based agriculture in the world is what fuels me! I get inspired to work harder and work smarter, bringing about greater change and better product!”
Scott’s journey into farming took a few unexpected turns. He initially studied manufacturing engineering and art, exploring career paths outside agriculture. But, even to his own surprise, a strong desire to steward the land and produce food brought him back to his family farm in southern Minnesota. He’s proud of the strides he and his brother have made in adopting soil-building practices like cover cropping and reduced tillage, ensuring the long-term vitality of their land. Yet, Scott’s drive for innovation led him beyond conventional agriculture. As he learned more about our food system’s limitations, he embraced the challenge of raising and selling pasture- and woodland-based meats directly to customers. Grass Fed Cattle Company feels like the natural next step—a way to apply his experience, forge new connections, and offer customers an even greater variety and convenience in accessing delicious, nourishing food.
A proud father of two wonderful sons who’ve recently ventured out on their own, Scott is passionate about living a full and active life. His interests range from nutrition and life optimization to the science of regenerative agriculture. He recharges by cooking, working on homestead projects, and spending time with family and friends—hopefully getting them to try out his new sauna! When he gets a break from the farm, he enjoys traveling, skiing, mountain biking, and reconnecting with friends.
For Scott, raising animals is about producing the most nourishing and health-supporting products while at the same time creating a thriving ecosystem. He finds joy in watching the land flourish, with vibrant greenery, diverse birds and insect life, and the fresh, earthy scents that signal a balanced environment.
“I’m excited to continue this journey with Grass Fed Cattle Company, bringing high-quality products to people who value the taste and integrity of the food. We’ll continue partnering with like-minded farmers and ranchers, bringing these products to the growing community around Grassfed Cattle Co. and building upon the brand you’ve come to know and trust.”
