Introducing our Tree Range Chicken Farmers

Good quality, truly free-range chicken is hard to do right, and make it work financially. That is why we are excited to share with you our new supplier for chicken products, Tree-Range® Farms Chicken. One of our new owners, Tony, co-founded Tree-Range® Chicken in 2016 focusing on building out production and processing facilities over 7 years. We are pleased to bring this connection with local, regeneratively raised chicken to you, our Grass Fed Cattle Company customers. This is the chicken we eat ourselves and feed our families. It is truly regenerative and delicious!

In early 2023, with new hires and leadership in place Tony made the transition out of the business operation to focus on his personal farming future. And then, almost like it was planned, the Grass Fed Cattle Company opportunity came along in 2024!

At Tree-Range® Farms they only raise slow growth chickens. They are raised in forested pastures, enabling them to freely forage on plants and bugs as true omnivores, without the need for antibiotics, hormones or restrictive confinement. Every flock spends their first 3-4 weeks indoors (brooding time). After that they are trained for a few days to seek food, shade, and water outdoors while food is moved around the paddocks to improve ranging and encourage foraging. Once they have foraged around a full paddock, they are rotated to new paddocks. This happens a few times before they are ready to be harvested. They free-range in this “jungle-like” habitat 100% of the day from week 4 until week 10-11 when they are harvested. Because these birds grow slower and have the opportunity to exercise outdoors they maintain healthy bones and hearts and are eager to return to their natural chicken behaviors.

Tree-Range chickens are raised by family farmers under a tree canopy in a diversified agroforestry system that builds soil health, sequesters carbon, and increases biodiversity. All of the farms that raise Tree-Range® Chickens are family-owned and operated ranging in size from 10 acres up to 110 acres!

As we continue to focus on bringing you the highest quality 100% grass fed and finished beef we are happy to have this connection here in Minnesota with a group of farmers who are rethinking chicken and doing things in alignment with our values at Grass Fed Cattle Company.
