A Bittersweet Announcement
Jared and I (Valerie) have some bittersweet news to share with you! We have owned the Grassfed Cattle Company for over 5 years. We’ve put high quality meat on over 2,000 tables, added products, expanded pickup locations and added delivery, all with the goal of serving you better. It has been an absolute blessing to our family. Most farmers never know the individuals who consume the products and livestock they work so hard to raise and produce, but we’ve always been grateful to know and see each of you who have supported our farm. Over these same 5 years, we’ve also expanded our farm business, running more cows and acres of land than we have before. Jared started what is turning into a popular ranching-based podcast. But the greatest change is being blessed with two beautiful children, Colton and Briley.
With all of the changes going on in our lives, we’ve decided the best decision for our family is to take a step back from a few things and focus on others. After lots of prayer and consideration, we will be selling Grassfed Cattle Company and are excited to introduce you to the new owners, Tony Wells and Scott Haase.
Tony and Scott are farmer friends of ours and both have a passion for regenerative farming and local food systems! Tony runs a garlic and vegetable farm just south of Cannon Falls and is looking forward to getting into cattle production next year. Scott is a partner in his family crop farm near Mankato but also independently started raising pasture and woodland turkeys and pigs as well as direct marketing. Tony and Scott are people with strong moral character, deep care for animals and a commitment to continuing to provide you with high quality grass fed and finished beef, pastured pork, pastured chickens and more.
Over the past couple of weeks we’ve told a few of our customers and friends about this change and have heard some similar concerns and questions: What will happen to your farm? Is the business struggling? I wanted to answer these questions in case you have similar concerns.
What will happen to your farm? Not much will change on our farm! The majority of our income from the farm comes from selling bulls or bred cows and heifers to other cattlemen and women. We plan to continue expanding this portion of our business. We will no longer be raising chicken for Grassfed Cattle Company as Tony and Scott have their own source but we may still sell beef to them in the future.
Is the business struggling? Not at all, thanks to all your support! As a matter of fact, Grassfed Cattle Company has continually grown over the last 5 years. This is actually part of why we made the decision to reach out to other farmers we knew you could trust. We know Tony and Scott have the time, dedication and creativity to add more products, expand delivery and continue serving you even better.
Jared and I have been working with Scott and Tony to teach them the ropes and will make sure the transition is smooth! We want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for each order, kind email and phone call and for trusting us to grow food for your family. The past 5 years have been an amazing part of our lives that we will never forget! We would love to stay in touch with you and your family.
