Grassfed Cattle Co. is partnering with Blue Dirt Farm, a family-run operation tucked away on the fertile plains and rolling river valley hills of Blue Earth, Minnesota. This collaboration brings you pasture and woodland-raised heritage breed pork, raised with the same dedication to sustainable farming and animal welfare that you’ve come to expect from us.

Why We Chose Blue Dirt Farm

Scott Haase, the farmer behind Blue Dirt Farm, shares our belief that the best food comes from farming practices that respect the land, the animals, and the environment. His heritage breed pigs, the renowned Mangalitsa and Berkshire crosses, roam diverse woodlands and pastures, foraging naturally while being supplemented with feed mixes grown regeneratively right there on the farm. Any purchased feed is certified organic, and the pigs are always finished using a soy-free mix. This thoughtful approach not only results in delicious, high-quality pork but also helps to regenerate the land, mirroring the principles we follow on our farm.

At Blue Dirt Farm, the pigs are rotated frequently to new areas of pasture, ensuring they have access to fresh forage while also contributing to soil health. Scott’s commitment to these regenerative practices ensures that the pigs lead a low-stress life, resulting in meat that is tender, juicy, and full of flavor—a testament to the benefits of farming in harmony with nature.

BLUE DIRT FARM PROMISES

  • Pigs are rotated frequently from March or April until October or November. Every 3-10 days the pigs are moved so they can find a diverse variety of natural forages along with the things we grow for them.

  • Feed is always non-GMO. Purchased feed grains and mixes are certified organic. The health of the soil and nutrient-dense crops are our top priority!

  • Since the beginning of 2021 all pigs are finished on a soy-free feed mix!

  • No animals treated with antibiotics, dewormers, or medications are sold to the general public. We will treat a sick animal if needed but this rarely happens and that animal will be marketed in a transparent way.

  • Turkeys? Same standards! Early on they're kept inside but they're kicked out during the days as soon as they're up to the task! And, by using portable fencing the turkeys too are moved frequently.
