Tips for Cooking Grassfed Beef
Grass fed beef tastes the way nature intended. No added hormones or antibiotics allow the natural, rich flavors of the beef to come through.
We’re excited to give you a few tips for cooking tasty beef!
Preparing grass fed beef requires low and slow cooking. The goal is to cook the inside without overcooking the outside. This can only be done with low heat and a longer cooking period. Do not overcook grass fed beef.
We suggest cooking the beef to medium / medium rare for the best taste. A medium rare steak is cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees and is limber when removed from the grill. If you enjoy well-done beef, consider our suggestions to keep meat moist while cooking it.
✓ Grass fed beef has high protein and low fat levels, the beef will usually require 30% less cooking time and will continue to cook when removed from heat. For this reason, remove the beef from your heat source 10 degrees before it reaches the desired temperature.
✓ Use a thermometer to monitor the cooking progress. Since grass fed beef cooks so quickly, your beef can go from perfectly cooked to over-cooked in less than a minute.
✓ Let the beef sit covered and in a warm place for 8 to 10 minutes after removing from heat to let the juices redistribute.
✓ Reduce the temperature of your grain fed beef recipes by 50 degrees.
✓ Never use a microwave to thaw your grass fed beef. Either thaw your beef in the refrigerator or for quick thawing place your vacuum-sealed package in cool water for a few minutes.
✓ When grilling, sear the meat quickly over a high heat on each side to seal in its natural juices and then reduce the heat to a medium or low to finish the cooking process. Also, consider basting the beef to add moisture throughout the grilling process.
✓ Since grass fed beef is extremely low in fat, consider coating with virgin olive oil for flavor enhancement. The oil will prevent drying and sticking.
✓ We recommend marinating your beef before cooking. Choose a recipe that doesn't mask the flavor of grass fed beef but enhances the moisture content. For safe handling, always marinate in the refrigerator.
