Meet Your Chicken Farmer!
Meet Casey Ryan! Casey raised one batch of pastured chickens for Grassfed Cattle Co. this fall in order to help us get chicken into more customers’ freezers.
Casey started raising chickens in high school and recently purchased a small farm of his own outside of Goodhue, Minnesota, not far from his parent’s farm. He grew up on their dairy farm and works full time on his family’s farm.
Casey built three floorless pastured chicken shelters using materials from an old barn he helped take down this spring - talk about innovation! It took him about four hours to build each chicken of the 16 by 14 foot shelters that allow the chickens to have fresh grass each day, while being protected from harsh weather and dangerous predators.
Casey loves when the one day old chicks arrive and enjoys caring for them as they grow. Casey moved the chickens to fresh pasture twice a day. He currently raises chickens and turkeys and sells them at a local farmers market. He is hoping to raise pastured pigs on his farm someday too! Thank you for helping get high quality, pastured chicken to more customers this fall, Casey!
