Meet Chicken and Beef Farmers Jared & Valerie!
Jared has been farming with his dad, Jon, since he returned from College in 2015. They have raised beef cattle for decades. Their focus on grass farming started when Jon spent 8 months on a grazing dairy in New Zealand in college. In 2018 Jared married Valerie and together have recently began adding diversity to the farm. They raised the first pastured chickens for the Grassfed Cattle Co and hope to add sheep, laying hens, goats and rabbits in the future.
The Luhman’s steward just over 700 acres in the beautiful rolling hills of Goodhue County about 15 minutes away from the Mississippi River.
The Luhmans do not feed their cattle any corn or grain, and are very proud of the 100% grass fed beef that they produce. Jared and Valerie have enjoyed caring for their pastured chickens, which get a new piece of pasture each day and are offered grain as well because they do not have stomachs capable of receiving nutrients from forage as cattle do. Their goal is to farm in a way that regenerates their land, provides enough income to allow any family member the ability to be a part of the farm if they wish, and to produce a healthy, safe, quality product and connect to consumer to farmers.
